If you’ve been cracing pizza while you’re pregnant, a London restaurant has a menu for you. ECO restaurant launched a series of pizzas made specifically with pregnant women in mind after moms-to-be kept asking for unusual toppings on their pies. Dubbed ‘pregnancy pizzas,’ they’ve seen requests for ice-cream, a blend of roasted ham, bananas, raisins, cranberries, fresh mint, and dill, and a pistachio ice cream pie. Do you like candy? Try the pizza featuring Mars bars and marshmallows. Craving salt? Have a taste of the sardines and baked beans top a different one. All are baked on sourdough crust.
“Within one week, three pregnant women came into my restaurant asking if I wouldn’t mind putting toppings on their pizza which aren’t on our usual menu,” said ECO owner Charmaine Wasif, quoted in an article in Women’s Health Weekly magazine. “My view is the customer is always right, and although I haven’t had kids myself, I knew that pregnant women sometimes like something out of the ordinary to eat. Somehow it works.”
And don’t think that you’re going completely crazy with calorie counting. When devising the pizzas, Wasif seeks advice from a nutritionist so that the pies contain nutrients beneficial to the mother and baby.
